This was it, Chris and I were going to college. Mom totally broke down when it was time for us to leave. I guess it was hard to believe everything had gone by so fast. I mean, Chris was already seventeen. I still found it hard to believe he wasn't five anymore.
We took a bus to our new college; It was a long, boring ride.
We stepped into the main building where we were assigned rooms.
Chris opened the door of his new dorm, seeing that his roommate was already there. Chris's roommate sat on the back of a ripped up couch in the middle of the room, smoking a cigarette.
Chris smiled pleasantly, "Hello, I'm Chris, your new roommate." He said cheerfully, holding out a hand.
His roommate looked at him like he was crazy, "What?" He said in a raspy voice.
Chris studied his roommate; He had thin, longish blonde hair and dark circles under his eyes. Chris smiled again and said, "Please excuse me. Should I have introduced myself in some other way?"
"Try not at all." His roommate said flatly.
A little taken aback, Chris said, "So, um, what's your name?"
His roommate looked at him with a look that made Chris very uncomfortable and he studied Chris. He took in Chris's dorky sweater vest (yes, after three years he still wears them), blue jeans, etc.
"Um... Jake." Chris's roommate said.
What a stupid name. Chris thought, but he smiled politely, "That's a nice name, I'm Chris."
"You said that." Jake said shortly, turning on the T.V.
Chris awkwardly sat down on the other end of the couch, as far away from Jake as he possibly could.
Half just for the amusement, Jake held out a cigarette to Chris, "Want one?"
A bit surprised, Chris shook his head and said politely, his face pailing, "N-no, thank you."
Jake grinned to himself. This kid is predictable. He thought.
Chris glanced at the T.V. and, seeing that Jake had turned on a rather dirty program, childishly covered his eyes. Jake's eyes were glued to the T.V., reminding Chris very much of Leo, who he hadn't seen in quite a while now that he thought about it.
I opened the door to my new dorm, seeing that my roommate was already there. A girl sat at a desk in the far left corner of the room. She was wearing a tan jacket with a white and red collar, a blue skirt, white socks, and brown penny loafers. Weird. Her hair was dyed dark purple and it was styled in two ponytails with a bunch of extra hair hanging down in front of her ears. She had two red ball ponytail holders in her hair.
The girl, who was apparently my new roommate, grinned at me, "Hi!" She said.
I blinked, taking in the room. Half of the walls were covered in pictures of Anime and Japan stuff. Cats, Anime girls in short skirts, etc.
"Uh, hi." I said, "Nice outfit."
The girl giggled, "Oh yeah? This is my Kotomi Ichinose cosplay!"
I blinked again, not sure what to say. The girl said, "From Clannad."
Was I supposed to know what that meant? I just nodded like I understood and she beamed, "Konnichi wa! Watashi wa Ayumi desu!" She hugged me, which I hadn't expected.
"I'm sorry, what?" I said, totally lost now. I hoped she wasn't some sort of freak.... Oh, who was I fooling...?
The girl grinned stupidly, letting go of me, "I said, 'Hi, my name is Ayumi!"
For some reason I was sure that wasn't her real name. I waved at her and set my bag down, sighing. College was going to be interesting.
Well, at least I didn't have to worry about Kathy.
